By Mary E. Nava, Bexar County Medical
Society Director of Public Affairs
While Congress was in recess during the month of August,
I coordinated meetings with members of our Congressional
delegation and BCMS physician members to discuss medicinerelated
issues, including: CHIP, The CHAMP Act, SGR, GPCI and other
issues of significant importance during this session of Congress.
Our group met with Congressman Ciro Rodriguez (District 23) on
August 20 and with Congressman Lamar Smith (District 21) on August
29. Previously, we met with San Antonio and Washington, DC staffers
from the offices of Sen. John Cornyn to specifically discuss the
GPCI issue.
In other related legislative activities:
• Attended a legislative strategic planning session at TMA headquarters
hosted by the TMA Board of Trustees
• Visited with offices of Bexar County legislative officials, inviting them to
the BCMS New Member Welcome, which this year served as a salute to
all the hard work and dedication of our elected officials.
Many thanks to the BCMS physician
members and San Antonio Medical Group
Managers’ representative who contributed
time to meet with our elected officials on
these important issues:
