The popular exhibit, “Our Body:
The Universe Within,” will
make its South Texas debut at
the Witte Museum beginning
January 26, 2008, and running
through May 26. BCMS and BCMS
Alliance members will get a preview
of the exhibit during the new officer
installation ceremony on January 25
at the Witte.
The exhibit features 12 human
bodies and 75 anatomical specimens.
The bodies, specimens, and organs have been preserved using a process
known as polymer impregnation, a method
replacing bodily fluids with polymers that
prevent decomposition.
People in other cities have lined up for a
chance to see this exhibit, which offers visitors
a chance to explore the beauty and mystery
of the human body in detail, a realm
that generally is known only to physicians
and scientists. In addition to revealing displays
offering a glimpse into the human
body’s form and function, the exhibit strives
to demonstrate the uniqueness and beauty of
each individual body.
Besides the displays, the exhibit features
areas devoted to the history of the science of
anatomy, and a high-tech digital logbook
will allow visitors to leave behind an electronic
picture postcard that documents their
comments on the experience. Visitor entries
in the logbook will become a permanent part
of the exhibit.
